Youth Camp

Camp Chi Rho is Redeemer’s resident camp for kids that have completed 3rd through 8th grade. Our camp is led by a Leadership Team of adults that care for kids and want kids to grow in their faith.

History

Camp Chi Rho was conceived out of a discussion around Pat Jasinski's kitchen table. DCE George Nelson dreamed of a camp where Redeemer kids could grow in their faith and have a great time enjoying nature. Pat asked, “Why don’t we do that?” and Camp Chi Rho was born.

Chi and Rho are the first two letters (ΧΡ) of "Christ" in Greek ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ. (Christos) and became the perfect name for the camp.

The first Camp Chi Rho was held in 1978.

Staff

Camp Chi Rho is staffed by college and high school students that have gone through an application process. A background check is done for those ages 18 and older.

The staff meet regularly before camp begins to develop and refine skills to serve in a Christ-like manner, keep campers safe, create an environment where faith is strengthened, and to plan a camp that is uplifting, fun and encouraging.

Location

This year Camp Chi Rho will be returning to YMCA Camp Wakonda in Halltown, MO, the location of early years of Camp Chi Rho. Directions to the camp and a map of the facility can be found here.
